Technics SL-1200 / 1210 Repair Services

Clean & Refurb Package $150 [Base Price]

[This is our starting rate / base price for all work and is a mandatory baseline cosmetic cleaning and mechanical refurbishment service. This service assures that your Technics 1200 returns to you meeting our standards: looking fresh, running accurately, and stopping on a dime.]

With this service, your turntable is completely disassembled, vacuumed, deep cleaned inside and out, and calibrated. All major components are removed for cleaning and lubrication including: the on/off power switch, the 33/45 speed controls, the pop-up target light, the main control board and motor, pitch control assembly, and tonearm assembly. The motor spindle is cleaned and freshly oiled and the pitch control is cleaned, lubricated, and calibrated. (Additional fees of apply if: any of the above components are broken and need to be replaced; and if the tonearm has issues that that go beyond standard cleaning, such as a seized height adjustment or antiskate misalignment.)

RCA Audio Cable Replacement +$75

We replace your used or damaged RCA cables with high quality, industry standard Mogami RCA cables. Our RCA cables are hand assembled and custom made for Pitch Control Audio by our US based supplier.

Keep your original ground wire, replace it with a new one, or have the turntable internally grounded, which eliminates the need for a ground wire, at no extra charge. Our internal ground modifications are completed to a professional standard with purpose-made, custom PCB boards.

(RCA only service is also available for $100 flat — for customers who want only to replace their audio cables and do not want cleaning, assessment, or other refurbishment.)

Pitch Fader Replacement +$80

We replace your pitch control potentiometer (commonly referred to as a fader) with a brand new, highly accurate and super smooth unit. Mandatory if your pitch control unit is excessively dirty or damaged and highly recommended in general if you have a decades old, original pitch control fader. Pitch fader replacement can solve issues with a “drifting” or inaccurate pitch control that has trouble maintaining the correct speed.

For Technics 1200 MK2 model turntables, we can install a pitch fader with or without the center “click” in place at the 0% point. These “clickless” faders still light up at the center point to accurately indicate 0%, but can be glided through smoothly for seamless DJ mixing and beat matching. This gives your MK2 the same feel as the M3D, MK5, and all subsequent 1200 / 1210 models — highly recommended for DJs.

(Pitch fader replacement for Technics SL-1200 / 1210 M5G and MK6 turntables is $100 due to the higher cost of parts for those models.)

Pop-Up Target Light Replacement  +$50

We replace your burnt out or flickering incandescent pop-up target light bulb with a fresh, warm white LED that mimics the look and feel of the original incandescent bulb, but shines much brighter for superior visibility and a lifespan 15 to 25 times longer. Bright white or blue LEDs available at no additional charge.

(For purists who want to keep their pop-up target light looking OG, replacement with an incandescent bulb is available on request.)

Tonearm Issues  +$75-250

Tonearms that skip or don’t move smoothly are likely damaged. Mishandled turntables, accidental drops and impacts, or years of use from previous owners can result in damaged tonearm bearings, severely bent tonearms, and other issues. These more severe issues typically run $200 or in cases of extremely damaged tonearms, a ceiling of $250.

We also offer tonearm antiskate calibration and re-lubrication of seized and stuck height adjustment mechanisms, services that typically run $75-$100. Prices for these repairs vary and require an in-person assessment before an accurate quote can be made.

Motor / Power / Board Issues  +$100-200

Erratic speeds, a runaway platter, malfunctioning start/stop, or a totally dead turntable are some of the more common, severe issues that 1200s see. These issues sometimes requires replacement of specialized components on the turntable’s main control board. Prices for these repairs vary and require an in-person assessment before an accurate quote can be made.
